Swayam Das

PhD student

Swayam is a PhD candidate with the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Advanced Engineering for Personalised Surgery & Intervention. He completed a BSc in Physics at St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, India, followed by an MSc in Physics and Engineering in Medicine at University College London in 2023 and 2024, respectively. His master’s thesis investigated the role of skull cavities in transcranial focused ultrasound applications. After graduating, he worked with the Regional Medical Physics Service (Health and Social Care) in Northern Ireland as a Clinical Technologist, primarily in diagnostic ultrasound, before joining the CDT in 2025.
Swayam’s PhD focuses on developing miniature photoacoustic and ultrasound endoscopy probes for colorectal polyp diagnosis. He works within the framework of the ERC Synergy project EndoTheranostics, which aims to revolutionise colorectal cancer theranostics. He maintains broad research interests in non-ionising theranostic modalities, with a current focus on biomedical ultrasound and optics.
