The Photons+ Ultrasound Research Laboratory (PURL) at King’s College London is delighted to celebrate the successful PhD defence of Dr Weidong Liang.
Dr Liang has completed his doctoral research under the supervision of Dr Wenfeng Xia and Professor Sebastien Ourselin. His research focuses on the development of real-time 3D ultrasonic needle tracking technologies for image-guided interventions. By integrating fibre-optic sensing with advanced ultrasound imaging systems, his work enables accurate localisation of interventional devices, contributing to safer and more effective minimally invasive procedures.
Reflecting on his PhD journey, Dr Liang highlighted the challenges and rewards of research, from complex experimental work to moments of meaningful discovery. His achievement represents not only scientific progress but also perseverance and dedication over several years.
We also extend our sincere thanks to the examiners, Dr Shufan Yang and Dr James McLaughlan, for their time and valuable assessment.
Dr Liang is currently Co-Founder and CEO of Beacon Surgical Ltd, where he continues to translate research innovations into clinical solutions. We look forward to seeing his continued impact in both academia and industry.
Congratulations to Dr Liang on this significant milestone.
